I'm playing a Cleric now, Frederick Bartholomew, after the passing of Gloin so there's a shift in perspective. Oscar is the other Cleric and Drew is the magic-user. Bill is DM and Donovan is MIA, but would be playing a Dwarf were he here.
Session 17
The following words were found scrawled on the back of a missal for conducting services in honor of Heironeous:
I descended into the depths of the ruins beneath the Castle in search of valorous battle. I would find glory in battle or glory in death...
I joined a crew of adventurers... one, a Cleric of the Blinding Light, another, a weaver of spells, all accompanied by a retinue of porters and men-at-arms...
We sallied into the southern reaches of the Deep Cellars, past a battle site where I was told a compatriot of theirs had fallen. I can only assume he fell in a mighty battle as the party was eager to move on from that grim site. We wandered through the dank underground passages until coming upon a room in which a thousand brass keys were hung. A mosiac in the middle of the floor spelled out a riddle, no doubt providing a clue to the purpose of the keys...
We puzzled it out and found the right key, which had barred the way to a cache of supplies and treasure. We made short work of the locks and traps and walked away with ample coinage, a high quality short sword, and a finely made leather cloak. But where was there battle to be found? We had gained much, but had yet to find the enemy among the dank ruins of the Castle.
After finding a room set up as a barracks, we came upon a room shrouded in darkness that not even our lanterns could penetrate. I boldly stepped through the threshold, groping around in the darkness. When I found nothing, I came back out of the room only to find myself in a different corridor without my compatriots. Whatever fell sorcery distorted my place in this cellar could not be reversed, I was alone for the time being...
Yet, my adventuring troupe eventually followed the same path through the darkness and we were reunited again. We took our bearings and found ourselves in an area of the cellar occupied by some dark sorcerer or summoner who had laid down a pentagram upon the stone, but he was not present at the time. We took the opportunity to plunder the area, burdening our porters with tapestries, fine clothes, and coins...
Where I was ready to find mine enemy, we were cut off from the entrance and burdened with spoils so we endeavored to find another exit. We wandered quite a bit, finding no one and becoming more lost. We had abandoned any attempt to map our location. We did find daylight at the end of a long tunnel that slowly worked its way back to the surface, breaking into the light through a small creek that was feeding water to the dungeon below...
We had survived our delve much richer, we shall return to bring glorious battle to the Chaos that lives below...
